I bought a DNX 6160 with kenwood navigation over a year ago. My maps are over a year old and there is still no map updates available. Does anyone have any solutions. It is very frustrating to spend so much on a unit and then not be able to update it. Please help me with a solution! I have tried contacting Kenwood and Garmin numerous times but have not gotten any clear answers.

Map updates have been out for a week or 2. http://www8.garmin.com/products/kenwood/ Should also be recent kenwood firmware and garmin updates too.

That doesn't list the 6160 as needing updates. It does show updates for the 6140 though

When I click on software updates for the 6160 it shows a download for 5x60

Are they the same? Or does only the 5160 need the update?

If you check every other download they are all the same. So I would assume that this is a misprint and they forgot to add the dnx6... versions in the title. If you want to be 100% sure or unsure contact garmin and see if their reps can get the answer correct.

Best to email Kenwood on this, I know some units do have the same hardware, so they may use other models firmware. My DNX520VBT uses the same firmwares as the DNX5260BT yet that has a 6.1" screen whereas mine is 7".

These listings are not for map updates only software updates. I have contacted Garmin and they told me that map updates would not be available for a few weeks.

They are for both. At least for north america. Map updates were released about 1 month ago and won't be a new update till this time next year. Try clicking on order map update.
